International Womens Day 2018

For the past 3 years I have written a blog post about International Women's Day and I feel like today's day felt a little different than the ones before. I feel as if today is a great reminder and affirmation of what I have been actively keeping in the forefront of my thoughts and actions for the past year. Women empowerment WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
I remember this snippet of a video I was watching of Oprah where she explained several aspects of her life and career's journey and how it shaped her to be who she is today. I remember very plainly a specific section where Oprah asked her boss for a raise and her boss's reaction to her question so plainly explains why feminists are here today.
His reaction to her rightful question of a raise was, Are you married?, Do you have children to feed and support?, Do you have a mortgage??  Her reaction was "no" and Oprah so plainly says that she walked away from the conversation knowing that it was time for her to move on and that she was not going to get that raise at that point in time..... The fact that her marriage status, amount of children and bills would be brought into the equation is shocking when it should be based on her performance alone.
Now take a second and ask yourself this... Do you think a man would ever be asked those same questions in a performance review?

NOOOO the answer is a resounding NOOOO
This scenario alone is an example of the widespread subconscious belief of inequality regarding women that is so embedded in this country and so many other countries DNA.
I think the best way to fight this is to actively bring attention to the hidden issue and to actively support other women!

I think today alone is not the only day that we as women should support each other and to actively and intentionally do this daily. That is my goal! So that my future daughter can live and excel in this country and not worry about fitting into glass slippers but worry about shattering glass ceiling!!!

Til next time,
Peace & Love,
Karen Beatty
